  CLEANING & CLUTTERBUSTING FOR QUILTERS: Donate any and all items related to Quilting, Sewing, Needlework, and any Craft related items.
Finally, there is an Area 51 for Quilters and Crafters to send their UFOs to. The UFO-rphanage for Quilters, sorts and designates the UFOs that they receive. Some of the UFOs are planned into a quilt or other project and then donated to various worthwhile groups and organizations. Other UFOs are forwarded to partner organizations who have more resources to complete the projects. Materials and supplies are used in an active project or donated to worthy organizations for use in projects of their own. So far, I have personally sent three boxes to the UFO-rphanage.
- Fabric
- Sewing, Craft, & Quilt notions, patterns, magazines, books, trims, thread, etc.
- Craft and needlework supplies or projects no longer of interest to you.
- Yarn, knitting or crochet supplies, projects, books, patterns, hooks/needles, etc.
- Books, magazines etc. related to Quilting, Sewing, Needlework, and Crafts.
If something isn't listed, SEND IT ALONG and the UFO-rphanage for Quilters will find a home for it!
ALL FABRICS ACCEPTED. Especially Sewing or Quilting Fabric (love those 'uglies'), flannel, fleece, & cotton batting or cotton batting scraps. Cotton fabric scraps measuring a minimum of 1-1/2" in width or 2" square. All other fabrics of any size or amount. Partially finished, or imperfect quilts, quilt tops, quilt blocks, sewing projects, etc. Whenever possible, PLEASE LABEL all non-cotton fabrics, wools, polys, blends, etc. to help me direct fabric easily to senior, sewing and other charity projects. (This step is not required, but is certainly appreciated!)

Note: The UFO-rphanage requests that you please send all Polyester Batting (4oz or less) to: Quilts From Caring Hands.
It is important to note that the UFO-rphanage is not a registered charitable organization. Please do not allow this to deter you. It costs a significant amount of money and time to register and keep current as a charitable organization. The UFO-rphanage is run entirely by volunteers who feel that their time is better spent in action than paperwork. So, your donation is not tax-deductible. However, there are certainly costs incurred in operating the UFO-rphanage (including operating their website). ON A PERSONAL NOTE:
I understand the reluctance to get rid of that project that is waiting for completion. My sewing room has a pile of UFOs. However, a year does not seem to go by that I do not acquire (and usually start on) another project. I am proud to say that I am one of a long line of quilters. My pile of UFOs consists of projects that I have started on, that my Aunt has given me, that my grandmother didn’t complete, that my great-grandmother left in a cedar trunk! I have already started boxing fabric and supplies to forward to the UFO-rphanage. However, I think that the idea that gives me the most pleasure is that many of my half finished projects will be a gift to people like me who love to sew or craft but can’t afford to buy the supplies. My UFOs will be a gift in raw form, get finished, and maybe even give someone else the chance to give to another in the form of a finished project.
